No Walls Gallery in Brighton presents ‘Hello Cheeky’, the first solo show by young British illustrator, Hattie Stewart. The show runs from Saturday 29th March – 26th April with an opening reception on the evening of the 28th.
“Hello Cheeky – the title of Hattie Stewart’s first solo show – is a fun, playful phrase concocted in the mind of Hattie Stewart six years ago to encapsulate the feeling behind her spirited, comical and at times mischievous work. From cheerful characters with dark, sinister yet subtle undertones to the art of ‘Doodle-Bombing’ – a practice part satire and part adoration displayed by drawing over the covers of famous magazine publications including Vogue, Interview, Playboy and The Face – Hattie turns the banal into the abstract and the mundane into the magical.”
We’ve been following Hattie’s work for some time now and love her style. She refers to herself as a ‘professional doodler’, but whilst we might scribble a moustache onto the cover girl of our Arrow word, Hattie’s doodles are a little more sophisticated. Hattie works onto covers from the likes of Vogue and Playboy to create her own, unique works of art that are playful but allude to a darker side. Clients include House Of Holland, Marc By Marc Jacobs and Adidas and she is a regular contributor to Rookie and Nylon. We also hear she has a few secret projects up her sleeve this year… we can’t wait!
No Wall No Walls is an independent establishment which challenges the conventional view of a contemporary art gallery. No Walls are firm believers that art should be accessible to all and strive to be everything a traditional gallery isn’t.
